After the lost portrait painting of Antonius Triest by Anthonis van Dyck (comp. S. J. Barnes, N. de Porter, O. Millar und H. Vey, Van Dyck - A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings, p.413, No. III. A26). Antonius Triest was a friend and patron of Van Dyck and also supported Flemish painters, such as Peter Paul Rubens and Abraham Teniers. He commissioned the painting by Rubens "Conversion of Saint Bavo " for the high altar in the Cathedral of Ghent. Van Dyck’s painting became known through numerous painted copies and was also engraved by Pieter de Jode around 1630/40 for the series "Icones Principum Virorum" (compare New Hollstein, Dutch and Flemish etchings, engravings and woodcuts, 1450-1700, 45. V.)
