"Now I deal with Afghan or Persian tapestries, or in any case tapestries similar to those that Tamerlane, Attila, Genghis Khan, Kublai Kan, used to put under their saddles of their Tartar mounts. They are colourful tapestries, full of letters.
The letters can also be read, if you wish. They do not express much, and yet they could not express more: between the earth and the sky - unexpectedly - make everything add up - silence is golden - sometimes the moon sometimes the sun - you can find the same things by opening the page of any book – the Bible, the Koran, Das Kapital, Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Ulysses, Moby Dick for a Borgesian library".
Alighiero Boetti, quoted in:
Germano Celant (ed), Alighiero Boetti, Skira, Milan, 2001, p. 65.
