«Xaver Sedelmeier covers a chaise longue and a chair with a sheet metal spread. The elegant oak frames create an exciting dialogue with the sheet metal material. Spreads are usually used to protect against dirt or wear and tear, or as a decorative element. Sedelmeier’s spreads add an aspect of irrational protection to this concept. Like an inorganic shell, the sheet metal covers the oakwood to ward off negative influences. His works, made from timeless clear elements, are symbolic of an emotional immune defence and resilience. At the same time, the decorative combination of two fundamentally different materials conveys a kind of aesthetic protection. A guiding principle that was already inscribed in Sedelmeier’s ‘Shieldwork’.”
