Provenance: Private collection, Italy.
The present drawing presumably goes back to a lost design with the death of Seneca by Peter Paul Rubens. A comparable drawing which is ascribed to the Rubens school shows a similar arrangement of the figures and is preserved in the Zwicky collection in Basel.
