1989 Vespa PK 50 N Speedmatic (ohne Limit / without reserve)

1989 Vespa PK 50 N Speedmatic (ohne Limit / without reserve) - Solo Vespa. Quasi.

In 1982 Piaggio presented the smaller sister of its PX model, the PK, which was going to replace the smallframe-Vespas. The design was clearly similar to that of the PX and also underneath it saw some improvements. In 1984 an automatic transmission became available for the first time. It was not quite technically mature, though, because of its hydraulic clutch system. Later with the beltdriven Variomatic the power was properly transferred to the rear wheel. The PK 50 N Speedmatic came in 1989 and was a hybrid of XL1 and XL2 models, only available in Italy.

In three years less than 5,000 examples of the PK 50 N Speedmatic were built. The reason was probably the Autamatic transmission, because manual models were built ten times as many. Just like everything that is rare and odd, also the Speedmatic triggers a collector‘s passion.

While the Speedmatic was only available in white and green, this dark blue example, as one can plainly see, was in public service for the Carabinieri chasing criminals, of course with a blue light in the rear.

Chassis: V5P1T*0005210*, Motor: V5P1M*3123*, Italienische Fahrzeugpapiere (Italian papers)
