The present sheet is one of four engravings which were executed after the painting by Andrea Mantegna “Christ in Limbo” (c. 1468) in the late 18th century. The engraver is unknown; one of the sheets is monogrammed and dated "MA AMF 1492" in a plaque. The present engraving is without inscription or monogram but was like the other sheets presumably executed between 1770-1800.
