Adolf Kosarek

Adolf Kosarek - Obrazy 19. století

(Heralec 1830–1859 Prague)
Open Landscape, signed A. Kosarek, oil on canvas, 72.8 x 121.5 cm, framed, (Rei)

Adolf Kosárek initially followed his father’s request to become a civil servant before resigning after three years’ service to dedicate himself to painting. He attended the Prague Academy and undertook study trips to Rügen and the Salzkammergut. He finally settled to work in Prague. His preferred subject matter, landscapes, display a German style of painting, probably the influence of his teacher Max (?) Haushofer at the Prague Academy. Kosáreks artistic achievements consist of reproducing nature in an objective manner, thereby succeeding in the transition from a romantic to a realist approach. His choice of dark colours is typical of Czech landscape painting. Despite his early death at the age of 29, he bequeathed a large number of paintings, some of which can be found in the Modern Gallery in Prague. (Compare Thieme-Becker, Künstler Lexikon, 21. Vol., published by E. A. Seemann, Leipzig 1927, p.328)
