Pieter Snayers was a Flemish painter of battle and hunting scenes. A student of Sebastian Vrancx, he was strongly influenced by his teacher during his early period. In 1612 he became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp. In 1628 he moved to Brussels, where he worked for Archduchess Isabella of Habsburg. Later he became court painter to Cardinal Infant Ferdinand of Habsburg and Archduke Leopold William of Austria. He collaborated with Rubens in numerous projects, such as in the painting cycle on the Life of Henry IV and the Torre de la Parada series. He executed countless portraits and landscapes for the aristocracy in Brussels. His most important pupil was Franz Adam van der Meulen.
