According to Walther Bernt (see the copy of his communication, dated February 1964), the present painting is one of the best works by Jan van Huchtenburgh, a painter of battle scenes. His most prominent patron was Prince Eugene of Savoy, for whom the artist painted a cycle depicting the latter’s victories over the Turks.
