Portrait of Jean Charles de Cordes and his wife, Jacqueline van Caestre, each 74 x 60 cm, carved and gilded old frame (2)
Both paintings are workshop copies of paintings in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, which have alternately been attributed to Rubens or van Dyck. Charles (Jan Karel) de Cordes hailed from a noble family, one of the richest in Antwerp. Jacqueline van Caestre was his second wife. She was the daughter of Jan van Caestre, member of the Great Council of Mechelen (Malines). She died a year after her marriage at the birth of her son.
