Matilda Lotz The talent of this artist, born in Franklin, Tennessee, was discovered early. She received her first painting lessons from her brother Paul before starting at the San Francisco School of Design in 1874 with Virgil Williams. In the 1880’s she continued her education in Paris with Felix Barrias and exhibited at the Paris salon. Her many travels took her through Europe and North Africa and had a lasting influence on her work.
