Franz Theodor Aerni: A Swiss landscape painter based in Rome. He was a pupil of J. J. Geißer and studied from 1872 to 1874 with Malatesta at the academy at Modena. Aerni was active in Rome from 1874 onwards. In 1878 and 1879 he accompanied Hermann Corrodi on a journey to Egypt and Cyprus, coming home with numerous sketches. His landscape paintings mainly featured scenes drawn from Naples and Rome, including lively street scenes, oriental scene, and scenes of the Tessiner and Graubündner mountain ranges.
