Julius Noerr

(Munich 1827–1897 Starnberg) The Race, signed and dated J. Noerr (18)85, oil on canvas, 52 x 68 cm, framed, (Rei)

Julius Noerr: The landscape and genre painter J. Noerr received his artistic education from Feodor Dietz and Johann Gottfried Steffan. In his landscape painting, usually enlivened by groups of figures, his precise observations of nature demonstrate that he is a pupil of Eduard Schleich the Elder. He went to Prien on Chiemsee with his friend Hugo Kauffmann and joined the circle of artists known as the “Bears and Lions”. Later he also discovered the attractions of the landscapes around Lake Starnberg. (Compare: Bruckmann’s Lexikon der Münchner Kunst, Münchner Maler im 19. Jahrhundert, Munich 1982, Vol. 3, p. 231).
