Anton Doll
(Munich 1826–1887) Winter Pleasures, signed A. Doll, Munich, oil on canvas, 60 x 87 cm, framed, (Rei)
Anton Doll Anton Doll demonstrated his artistic talents whilst still at school. However, after completing his schooling he first went on to study law for a few semesters. An autodidact, he soon turned to painting, and was exhibiting his own works at the Kunstverein in Munich at an early age. The influence of Heinrich Bürkel and Adolf Stademann on his painting is evident. Doll preferred winter landscapes with decorative buildings and figures. (Bruckmann’s Lexikon der Münchner Kunst, Münchner Maler im 19. Jahrhundert, Munich 1981, Vol. 1, p. 244.)
