Provenance: Gallery Mathaf, London. Giulio Rosati: Rosati studied at the Academy in Rome with Dario Querci, Francesco Podesti and the Spaniard, Luis Alvarez Catala. His made his name primarily with his watercolours, usually of oriental market scenes. Although he never travelled to the Near East, working instead from photographs, his watercolours were very popular, both at home and abroad. His customers included collectors in England, France and also America. The brilliant colouring and detailed portrayal of the market scenes - usually traders pitching their wares to customers - are characteristic of his watercolours.
