Hugo Mühlig: Mühlig received his first artistic instruction from his father, Meno Mühlig. He studied at the Dresden Academy from 1871 to 1874, and was the master pupil of Viktor Paul Mohn at the Academy from 1877 to 1880. In 1881 he moved to Düsseldorf. From this time onwards he took his themes from the Lower Rhein, the Eifel, Hessen and the dune landscapes of the Belgian and German North Sea coastlines. Mühlig frequently spent his summers with the Willingshaus colony of artists in Hessen. He became a member of the „Malkasten“ association of artists and the secessionist group of free artists, the Freien Vereinigung Düsseldorfer Künstler. The artist’s works can be found in many German museums.
