We are grateful to Dr Claudia Wagner for confirming this work’s authenticity on the basis of the original.
The present lot constitutes an early, especially large version of Diefenbach’s famous motif of the fairy dance. The whereabouts of this picture were long unknown, only a historical photograph in the Picture Archives of the Austrian National Library existed. After resurfacing in northern Germany, this extremely important work by Diefenbach thus becomes accessible to a wider audience again through our auction.
