Spring in Italy, 1952: ‘Unita’, the newspaper of the Communist Party, runs a story accusing Fiat of only building cars for higher earners. 4 July 1957: Fiat presents the Nuova 500. Since then, the former ‘people’s cars’ have developed a cult following, becoming increasingly unaffordable in the process.
This vehicle was bought in Germany around eight years ago. The diminutive red car was extensively overhauled around 2007, including a new paint job. It was also fitted with a dashboard and various trimmings like steering wheel, mats and a 500 Lusso panel. Since then it has been driven rarely, but adored all the more. The compact car was submitted for auction with recent servicing.
