The area of the Sobieskisquare was known for its „Hängstatt“ – a place were laundresses used to hang the laundry for drying in several storeys mounted between two poles. The ball season celebrated the popular laundresses with a „Wäschermädel ball“ in the pub Gschwandner in Hernals.
