A Half-High Napoleon III Cabinet
so-called meuble à hauteur d'appui, attributed to GEORGES-ALPHONSE-BONIFACIO MONBRO, called MONBRO AINÉ (1807-1884), Paris c. 1860, probably pear-veneered and ebonised hardwood frame with stepped 1-door central section, brass rod inlays in field form, rich bronze doré mountings in wave form, bulls-eye mouldings, door with coloured stones applied in the oval in the form of a flower vase, c. 118 x 101 x 44 cm, marble top, signs of age and use. A pair of cabinets almost identical to this type was sold at Sotheby’s New York on 19 April 2013.
