The charming Franz Joseph Promenade (also known as the Lungomare) was completed in 1911 and runs for around 10 kilometres along the coastline from Volosko via Opatija (a famous winter health resort and fashionable seaside retreat of the Habsburgs), Ičići, and Ika to Lovran. It offers pleasant walks past many of the region's famous sights, such as magnificent historic villas from the 19th century, the statue of the "Girl with the Seagull" and the most beautiful beaches.
