Federico Andreotti

Federico Andreotti - Dipinti dell’Ottocento

(Florence 1847–1930)
Young beauty with a basket of roses, signed F. Andreotti,
oil on canvas, 107 x 76 cm, framed, (Rei)

Provenance:
Private Collection, Germany.

Federico Andreotti was the son of painter Enrico Andreotti. He studied with Angiolo Tricca before entering the Art Academy in Florence, specialising in oil painting, watercolours and frescoes. Andreotti received the recognition he deserved at an early age and, after having been awarded a scholarship to study in Rome, he was commissioned a painting by the King of Italy himself.
Andreotti did paint the occasional landscape, influenced by the Macchiaioli, but gained fame throughout Europe with his historical and genre paintings, especially with portraits of young ladies dressed in 17th century fashion. The sitter of the present work, in her beautifully rendered Rococo dress, is a typical example of Andreotti’s production. Her natural beauty and porcelain complexion are highlighted by delicate pieces of jewellery and fresh roses. Andreotti manages to give her a sweet and playful, yet thoughtful look, portraying her in a moment of distraction.
