Literature: Erika Bierhaus-Rödiger, Carl Rottmann 1797-1850, monograph and catalogue raisonné, Munich 1978, WV-No. 700.
The present drawing is presumably a copy by Leopold Rottmann after the painting "Einsame Landschaft mit Schafherde" (Lonely landscape with flock of sheep; oil on canvas, 76,5x 69,5 cm, Oldenburg, Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte, Inv. Nr. 393) of Carl’s late period. Leopold was the brother of Carl Rottmann.
A comparable watercolour was discovered on the Munich art market in 1977 (Compare Bierhaus-Rödiger 1978, WZ-No. 700).
