Anton Doll - Dipinti del XIX secolo

(Munich 1826–1887)
“Blick auf Schloß Castellbell im Vinschgau, Südtirol”, old title on the reverse, signed A. Doll Munich, oil on canvas, 40.5 x 64 cm, framed (frame damaged), (Rei)

The castle Kastelbell is a medieval building in the Vinschgau Valley in Alto Adige. The castle was edified by the Lords of Montalban, who served the counts of Tirol; it entered into their possession after 1200. The first documented mention of the castle dates from 1238. From 1531 it was owned by the counts of Hendl who expanded the castle to give it its actual form. After fires in the 19th century the building fell to ruin. The Italian state bought the property in 1956 and restored it between 1987 and 1995. Since 1999 it is used for cultural events such as concerts and is open to the public.
