Pauline Koudelka-Schmerling after receiving initial training from her father, Josef Freiherr von Koudelka, Pauline von Koudelka-Schmerling became a pupil of Franz Xaver Petter, and later Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller. Her flower paintings and still lifes were exhibited at Academy exhibitions at Sankt Anna from 1830 onwards. The motifs of her floral still lifes are influenced by the Dutch painters van Tulden and G. and D. Seghers. Her precise, realistic and colourful paintings made her the most important flower painter of Vienna’s Vormärz. S
he was married to the statesman Anton Ritter von Schmerling (1805–1893).
