Provenance: Collection of Sylvia Lilith Doron and Ricarda Klausner; confiscated by the NS-authorities and transferred to the Albertina (Nr. 38369); 1995 restituted to the legal heirs after Sylvia Lilith Doron and Ricarda Klausner.

The southern railway line between Mürzzuschlag and Graz which was begun under the supervision of Carl von Ghega in 1842 was ceremonially inaugurated in 1844. Archduke Johann himself drove the locomotive of the inauguration railway. The locomotive was called Heukuppe and was named after the highest summit of mount Raxalpe. At the same time the station in Langenwang was finished and the operations management was transferred to the Vienna-Gloggnitz corporation. The railway section between Mürzzuschlag and Bruck/Mur was electrified in 1963.
