The present drawing may be a preliminary study for Führich’s painting „Jacob encountering Rachel with Her Father’s Herds“ (1836, oil on canvas, 66,3 x 90,5 cm, Belvedere, Vienna, Inv.-Nr. 2095). The drawing differs in several details such as the landscape in the background, the number of sheep, the garment of the two figures next to the well at the right and in some details in the foreground, but corresponds in the overall composition and in the figures with the painting.
