(France, 19th century) A harbour scene in Boston, Mass., from “Vue de l’Amérique du Nord” (design: 1834), A wallpaper with a scenic view of Boston including sailing boats, a steamboat, and staffage with Beacon Hill, the State House and Street Church park, partly retouched woodprint on paper rolls, laid down on canvas, 4 lengths, each 199 x 91 cm and 93 cm, bent at upper part (approx. 20 cm), Manufacture Zuber & Cie. (Rixheim, France), damaged (damages due to age), (Hu)

The furnishing of The Diplomatic Reception Room in the White House with a historic copy of the scenic wallpaper of Boston Harbour from „Vue de l’Amerique du Nord“ was commissioned from Jacqueline Kenedy, during the presidency of John F. Kennedy. The wallpaper was produced by Zuber et Cie. for the so-called Jones-House. There the wallpaper was installed until 1961, the year when the house was replaced by a grocery store. Zuber et Cie. is a wallpaper factory which has been in existence since 1797. According to their own account the company is the last production site where wallpapers and textile fabrics are printed by means of multiple woodblocks. The archive of Zuber et Cie. preserves around 100.000 woodblocks, which are declared National Monuments.
