A moving panorama, 19th century - Disegni e stampe fino al 1900, acquarelli e miniature

A moving Guckkastenpanorama, showing motifs from Anatolia, Armenia, Palestine, ect. including Jerusalem, the Felsendom, Grabeskirche, Meteoraklöster (?), fortified mountain towns with palaces, mosques and citadells, greek temple ruins, scenes with women in a harem, gardens, orthodox monks operating a rope winch, an Osman prince in a hall, a mausoleum, ect., gouache on canvas, figural scenes cut out from peep box sheets and pasted (engravings), 28,5 x 1340 cm, rolled, (Hu)

The depiction may be related to an Osman travel description of Evliya Celebi (died in 1862 in Cairo) "Seyahatname(si)", a book comprising 10 volumes with travel descritions including Istanbul, Anatolia, Syria, Aserbaidschan, Palestine, Kurdistan, Armenia, Irak, Russia, and so on (1630-1672). Presumably for a type of peep box showing a succession of sheets pasted next to each other which could be moved by spools and a special mechanism.
