Anton Zhuber was born in Nassenfuss, Carniola (Krain) on 12 April 1800, and died on 20 February 1845. His wedding to Theresia Damböck, daughter of Benedikt Damböck, took place in the Paulanerkirche in Vienna’s 4th District on 5 June 1834.
Anton Zhuber was a surgeon, court physician and palace doctor in Schönbrunn, full member of the medical faculty in Vienna, corresponding member of the Association of Physicians, and court physician in Laxenburg. He performed his most important medical service in Vienna during the cholera epidemic of the 1830s. He took over the supervision of the newly opened cholera hospitals, and in 1831 wrote a pamphlet warning about cholera deaths which served to increase awareness of the disease.
