The present pair of works can be placed well into the artist’s oeuvre of paintings on copper or metal, mostly small genre pictures, landscapes and marine settings created in the aftermath of seventeenth-century painters such as Nicolaes Berchem or Philips Wouwerman. The artist often executed pairs, but it is very rare to find a couple of his paintings that has not been separated until today.
