S. J. Gudlaugsson, Gerard Terborch, The Hague 1960, II, p. 88, no. 67A

On the reverse of the painting is a paper label indicating that Cornelis Hofstede de Groot and Eduard Plietzsch published a second version of this composition. Arthur Wheelock endorsed the present painting as an autograph work by Terborch on the basis of a photograph. Fred Meijer and Peter van den Brink have both independently confirmed the attribution to Terborch.
