1958 Mercedes-Benz 190 Ex-Fritz Wotruba

1958 Mercedes-Benz 190 Ex-Fritz Wotruba - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Recently purchased from one of the most famous sculptors!
Only four owners since 1994!

Mercedes-Benz presented an entirely new 180 with a jaw-dropping body – mainly due to its self-supporting structure – in September 1953. Mercedes had combined the pontoon form and merely hinted rear fenders with its traditional grille, a development that caused some heated debate after its launch. In 1956, the company paired the 180 with a slightly sleeker model in the guise of the Model 190, which gave the little Benz a decidedly sublime touch, especially due to the performance of its powerful engine.
br>The Viennese distributor of the time, F.K. Wiitke, delivered this 190 pontoon to one of Austria’s most famous sculptures, Professor Fritz Wotruba, in February 1958. The car faithfully transported the artist 100,000 km until a couple of years before his death, as evidenced in the two (!) service booklets submitted with the vehicle. Its second owner also headed straight for the contractual service garage owned by Gustav Karwinksy. The car changed hands again in 1986, before it was bought by the consignor in 1994. Now slightly aged, the consignor invested plenty of love in restoring the Benz to its former glory, giving it an excellent new paint job and seat covers. For all its simplicity, the 190 nevertheless represents a category that epitomised the hopes and aspirations of so many in the post-war economic miracle, but very few achieved. This one here can be proud not only of its condition, but also of its famous previous owner!
