The cave of Vilenica in the Karst region, in the north of Triest is the oldest show cave in Europe. Apart from the colourful stone walls of the cave, a 30m high stalagmite and the „dance floor hall“ are further attractions. Emperor Francis I. visited the cave in 1816. Prior to the discovery of the Adelberg cave the grotto in Vilenica was a popular sight for tourists from Triest and Rijeka in mid-19th century.
