Provenance:
Collection Karl Ewald Hasse (1810-1902), Hannover (Lugt 860); collection Richard Holtkott (1866-1950), Bedburg (Lugt 4260); private collection, Germany.
The present drawing goes back to a composition by Luca Cambiaso, which was reproduced in an etching by Guido Reni in 1607 (Madrid, Bologna, repr. The Illustrated Bartsch, Vol. 40, Part 1, pp. 324-27). The drawing may have been copied by a pupil of Reni in his master’s workshop at about the same time when the etching was produced after the drawing by Luca Cambiaso.
