The present drawing is related to the large painting by Lorenzo Pasinelli, which was executed between 1675 and 1688 for the chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in the church San Francesco in Bologna and is preserved today in the Cappella del Sacramento in San Petronio. According to Dr. Nicosetta Roio the present study is an authentic design drawing for the painting by Pasinelli. The drawing is identical with the finished composition and may have been made in the last phase of design shortly before the finalization of the painting. For the painting by Pasinelli see: C.
