Carl Wilhelm Götzloff’s role models were Caspar David Friedrich, Johann Clausen Dahl, Joseph Anton Koch and Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. In 1821 he made a study trip to Rome and later he traveled to Sorrent and Naples, where he settled and was appointed court painter.
