Austrian school, 18th century - Disegni e stampe fino al 1900, acquarelli e miniature

The Resurrection of Christ, pen, brush and brown ink, over traces of red chalk, brown wash, heightened with white, on greyish-brown laid paper, a study for the figure of Christ in black chalk on the reverse, the contour lines reinforced in pen and brown ink, 36,5 x 23,7 cm, mounted, framed, (Sch)

The present drawing may have been executed by an Austrian artist of Late Baroque and may have prepared an altar painting or a private devotional picture. Recently an attribution to Martin Johann Schmidt, called Kremser Schmidt (Grafenwörth 1718-1801 Stein), who dealt repeatedly with the subject of Christ’s resurrection was suggested.
