1971 Citroen SM

1971 Citroen SM - Historická motorová vozidla

Citroen presented the SM at the Geneva Motor Show in early 1970. From the marriage to Maserati an innovative, exciting marked luxury coupe with the four-camshaft V6 from the Maserati Merak was born. The hydraulic system of the DS had been further developed, power steering was now dependent on speed and the headlights followed to better illuminate curves on the road and compensate load changes. What was displayed in Geneva was more art than car, ahead of its time. The high price due to its complex technology, and not least because of the oil crisis, may have contributed to the fact that it has remained as a rare and avant-garde vehicle.

Its first owner registered this SM on January 11, 1971. He combined the original charcoal gray SM with brown leather and chose a five-speed gearbox. As an early model, it still does not require a fragile fuel injection system. The second owner acquired the SM on January 8, 1973 in Nancy, in 1977, he handed it over to the Citroen branch in Toul to get a gold coating, a lacquer dress that it still wears today. The SM passed through Germany on its way to a collector in Austria, who was impressed and thrilled by its originality and condition. Several invoices prove that the car had received a great amount of service by a specialist in Germany. Its first owner also confirms that the timing chains have been replaced only after being driven 80,000 km. He also only took the SM out in good weather, something that can be seen on every angle of the car. The French Grand Tourisme awaits a free spirit or someone who would like to be one!
