In October 1948, Jaguar hit the headlines: At the London Motor Show in Earls Court, the XK 120 was presented as a new sports car, equipped with a 3.4-liter twin cam six-cylinder. Note: The name referred to the maximum speed of 120 miles it could reach, i.e. almost 200 km/h, which appeared more than plausible through its sensational bodyline. The drophead coupé joined the ranks of the coupe and roadster with its full-fledged convertible including a lined soft top at the end of the production. When the XK 140 followed in 1954, only 1,767 copies of it were made.

This XK 120 SE Drophead Coupe, which was originally delivered to the US, was uncompromisingly restored by its previous Austrian owner on his own terms. He wanted to create a driving machine for events and for sport, yet have a comfortable ride. The modifications included a gently tuned 3.8-liter engine, a 5-speed gearbox, disc brakes from the XK 140 on the front wheels, more streamlined shock absorbers and finally power steering! He had realized his dream of an extravagant, ‘über’ XK. The last owner acquired the Jaguar in this form, installed new seats due to his height so that he also had enough space in the narrow cockpit. The Jaguar proved its high quality from that point on at numerous events. This XK 120 is a unique piece which can do much better than its peers. It has lost nothing of its timeless elegance, and its driving performance causes awe and amazement wherever it goes!
