Michael Neher
Was the son of painter Bernhard Neher the Elder. From 1813 on he recieved three years of classical education under Matthias Klotz and Angelo Quaglio the Elder at the Academy in Munich. In 1819 Neher travelled to Italy. He spent the years between 1823 and 1825 in Rome at the workshop of painter Heinrich Maria Heß, focussing on architectural painting. He then returned to Munich, where he lived as self-employed artist and participated in numerous exhibitions. Neher is a typical example of a Biedermeier painter, creating many costume and landscape pieces. Neher also painted various saloons at Schloss Hohenschwangau. In his later years he almost solely concentrated on architectural painting.
