1971 Lamborghini Jarama 400 GT

1971 Lamborghini Jarama 400 GT - Historická motorová vozidla

Ferruccio Lamborghini’s favourite design!
Complete engine overhaul in 2012!
Documented from the first day!

Crazy, crazier, Jarama! In the truest sense of the word. It is well-known that Marcello Gandini’s designs were never noted for their orthodoxy, but it is the simplicity of the Jarama in particular that makes it so eye-catching. Surfaces and edges fit together in rows, creating an exceptional sports car on the shortened body of the Espada, one that keeps its best qualities demurely hidden. The familiar V12 from the Miura lurks beneath the bonnet, waiting to be brought to life, while the interior excels with details like the piano keyboard, aka the dashboard. The performance was excellent at the time, and remains so. And with just 332 built, it is one of the rarest sports cars from Sant‘Agata, and the last one with its engine at the front.

This first-series Jarama was delivered to Roberto Avanzi in Verona in July 1971. He sold the car to Fiorenza Dongili at the end of 1977, and even the third owner kept the Jarama in its home town of Verona until 1989. It then moved to Lake Starnberg, but was never registered. Instead its engine was overhauled in 1995, and it was then registered in Rosenheim in 1999. The consignor purchased the car there, bringing it to Austria in 2011, where he set about improving the vehicle piece for piece. For instance, he renewed the interior, had the underbody blasted with dry ice and commissioned experts to dismantle and overhaul the entire engine in 2012/13. Meticulous records document innumerable minor and major stages of the work, while an extensive photo documentation provides insight into the engine overhaul. The passage of time is evident in the odd mark here and there, but the package waiting beneath the bonnet possesses an entirely confidence-inspiring, angry snarl. A Lamborghini Jarama is certainly not a run-off-the-mill sports car, but who would want one like that anyway?!
