1951 Vincent Comet Series C

1951 Vincent Comet Series C - Historická motorová vozidla

Legendary classic!

Anyone speaking of the Vincent will either mean the 1000 Rapide or the awe-inspiring Black Shadow. But the single-cylinder machines are also remarkable models. Vincent’s history began in 1934 with the release of the Comet A. The drive unit was actually developed specifically, contradicting the understandable assumption that the Comet engine is half a 1000 V-model. But a close relationship with the bigger Vincent cannot be denied, with good reason. Vincent created a sophisticated modular system when engineering the single and two-cylinder models. The low weight of just 178 kg makes the Comet easy to handle, so it is right in its element in hectic city traffic or on winding country roads. It also coped wonderfully with faster speeds. The engine packed 28 hp at 5,800 rpm, propelling the machine to almost 160 km/h. But the Comet was more than just a zippy and reliable machine, it was also expensive. At the start of the 50s, it cost around 20 percent more than a 500 BMW. So only very few Comets made their way to Europe.

The submitted letter from the Vincent HRD Comet Owners Club dated 24 July 1951 confirms that this standard series C Comet was ordered from ELEANOR Motors in London. It was then shipped on 21 August 1951, after completing a 35-mile road test. The consignor purchased the Comet as early as 1992, forming the nucleus of his ever-expanding motorbike collection. The sheer pleasure of riding a Vincent Comet may have been what triggered this new passion for collecting. This Comet has indeed taken part in several vintage bike races. A Vincent engine – whether in the single or two-cylinder versions – is a visual and acoustic artwork for any motorcycle enthusiast. And while the two-cylinder bikes will continue to gather dust in the collection, fans now have the opportunity to enjoy this particular masterpiece, even as an everyday ride.
