Adolf Luther - Buy or sell works

25 April 1912, Uerdingen (Germany) – 20 September 1990, Krefeld (Germany)

Adolf Luther was one of the most important representatives of light art and kinetic art. Accordingly, he is often listed together with the ZERO group members, Otto Piene, Heinz Mack and Günther Uecker.

Luther studied law at the University of Bonn from 1939, receiving his doctorate in law in 1943. By 1939, he was also devoting himself to painting, critically examining the Cubist painting of Picasso from 1945 to 1952. Luther left the legal profession in 1957 to devote himself fully to his art.
From 1958 onwards, he worked on the influences of light, experimenting and manipulating the effects of refraction and reflection.
His earliest exhibitions were at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Museum, Krefeld and at the Drian Gallery, London in 1960.

Luther created his first focusing space installation in 1968 consisting of concave mirrors lying on the floor, lighting and smoke. From the beginning of the 1970s he also started working with laser beams. The wide publicity he gained was mainly the result of integrating concave mirrors in such public spaces as the Munich Olympic Stadium for the 1972 Olympic Games, the Chancellery in Bonn and the Concert Hall in Düsseldorf.

In 1979 Adolf Luther was awarded the title of professor, in 1989 the Order of Merit by the State of North Rhine Westphalia, and in 1990 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Krefeld.
