Creating art is one of the manifestations of man’s intelligence; it is difficult to define its limits, reasons, or needs. There cannot be a Spatialist painting or sculpture, but only a spatial concept of art. There is an art that cannot be for everyone, and this is also true of man’s other creative manifestations, humanity experiences them, and we owe our civilizations solely to this. The only freedom is intelligence.
Lucio Fontana, 1953
