"A number of painted works by Adolf Luther preceded his light objects of glass and mirrors, of which the two ‘Materiebilder’ (dark matter pieces), from the year 1959, are an example. The surface of these paintings reveals relief-like, agitated structures, executed in a pastose mass of chalk, oil and pigment applied with the spatula."
