Flemish School, early 17th Century

Provenance:
previously in a German aristocratic collection;
Northern European Private collection
We are grateful for the assistance of Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague who is of the opinion that this painting, formerly attributed to Balthasar Huys (1590–1652), is by a South German or possibly North Italian artist of the late 17th century. We are also grateful to Zoran Kwak, who dates this painting in the years after 1640. He believes that the present picture was painted by an artist in the circle of the swiss painter Samuel Hoffmann (1591/92-1648).
