Walther Bernt writes that Jacob Duck was: ‘A Dutch genre painter whose palette is as elegant as that of W. Duyster and who is superior to Anthonie Palamedesz. and Simon Kick, to whose art his own is thematically related […]. His trademark is a delicate greyish brown tone from which the powerful local colours of precious garments or a silk military flag shine forth vigorously.’
