Description from the Belvedere card file index:
Around 1930, Carl Moll executed numerous landscape paintings in the Prater. This oil study dates from this period, when he spontaneously translated his visual impressions in temperamental brushwork, employing an impasto style. The applied highlights and the sky, which he delineates in blue, are rendered atmospherically to give an overall impression of the scene, which depicts a glade in an alluvial forest painted sur le motif.
…Over the years Moll’s style of painting became increasingly liberal. What might appear at first glance as oversimplification was actually greater energy. The resonance that Moll had previously sought from Schindler was now created in his own painting. ‘Moll felt the light, the colour, the nuances in his fingertips directing his brush, making the light in his works float and become illuminated with an irresistible power and inexhaustible wealth.’ The painter of the ephemeral, for whom ‘every new day with its ceaselessly changing appearance of light and diversity of colours’ was always a new experience,…
