A “Roomdezvous” shelf unit I, designed and manufactured by Gruppe B. R. A. N. D. (Boris Broschardt & Rudolf Weber),
Vienna, 1986, bent iron rods, glass shelves, height 130 cm, 80 x 120 cm. (DRAX)
The two architects first presented the “Raumdezvous” (or “Roomdevous”) concept in 1987, within their installation conceived for the exhibition “Wohnen von Sinnen” at the Düsseldorf Kunstmuseum.
“The lines of the individual pieces of furniture extend into space, converge, and blend into a room sculpture in which the furniture’s functions are nothing but individual stations in a fabric thus produced. These utilitarian elements, when transferred to a different spatial order, are expanded by us in line with the respective room, so that each time a new ROOMDEZVOUS emerges. These pieces of furniture are no dumbwaiters accommodating utilitarian conventions, but unique roommates able to grow without end.” (V. Albus, Wohnen von Sinnen)
